NYS GeoSpatial Summit Reception "Snags" National Leader to Hold Unique Interactive Session!

Learon Dalby

The NYS GeoSpatial Summit Committee is proud to announce that Learon Dalby will host an interactive geospatial session as part of this year's opening reception for the Summit.  It will feature an open discussion on emerging geospatial topics facing the country and the geospatial community in New York…..no holds barred!  Questions will be crowd-sourced from the New York State geospatial community over the next few weeks as well as from attendees at the event.

So, who is Learon Dalby?  Learon is a nationally known, no-nonsense, "get-er-done" redneck from Little Rock, AR…. no, not really!  That's what he'd have you believe.  Actually, he is one of the most astute leaders in the geospatial industry.  Hiding behind his Arkansas "twang", he manages to be everywhere, do everything and get away with saying it "like it is" without offending you.  (Well … most of the time.)

A recent tweet from Learon gives you just a hint of his personality, "Proud of myself for channeling my inner redneck ways the past 48 hours. Ok 44 hours..."  One day you can find him providing insightful commentary on the "Where 2.0 Conference".  Shortly thereafter, he might be thrust back into providing GIS support for the state of Arkansas in their efforts to recover from the devastating effects of massive tornadoes.

Doors to open at 6:30 - 9:30PM.

Music by:

Loren Barrigar to Perform at 2011 NYS GeoSpatial Summit Reception
Loren Barrigar It's said that you can find more talented guitar pickers per square mile in Nashville than in any other city.  Today you'll find one or two on any given street corner on Music Row or downtown.  It's a continuing tradition in Music City USA.  For the last six years Loren Barrigar has been invited there to perform at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society weekend.  Loren has early ties to Nashville.  When he was young, his father moved the family there for five years so that his son the guitar prodigy could perform.  The band, called The Christophers, played on a street corner.  An invitation to play the Opry soon followed.   While living there, Loren studied guitar with Chet's older brother, Jimmy Atkins.  The family spent a year living in Las Vegas before returning to Central New York so Loren could attend high school.

Loren's first CD, "Dance With Me" won a Sammy (Syracuse Area Music Awards) in 2009 for Best Country CD.  His songs have been played on network television's ER and the Young and the Restless.

Mark Bialczak of the Syracuse Post-Standard says, "With his CD "Dance with Me", Barrigar proves that folks who live in Elbridge can brag that they've got a world-class player living in their midst". And, "On his second CD, "Chillaxin'", Elbridge native Barrigar once again sets a gorgeous mood with his vastly talented fingerstyle acoustic guitar work."

The Skaneateles Suites blog says, "On stage, he has a relaxed but energetic presence while moving easily among rock songs, old time standards and original tunes".

Larry Hoyt of WAER in Syracuse had this to say.  "Barrigar belongs on that short list of the very best local performers who can hold their own on any stage".

On Wednesday evening, June 15th, sit down and spend some quality time listening to this fine musician during the GeoSpatial Summit reception.

The NYS GeoSpatial Summit is organized jointly by the NYS GIS Association and the NYS Office of Cyber Security. The event is funded entirely through registration fees and the support of the sponsors; no state funds are used.
